FBReader 2.9 for Android

September 19, 2018

2.9 is the final subseries in 2.x series. FBReader 3.0, the biggest update since 2016, will be released by the New Year. Version 2.9 does not introduce any new features, but it is built with the latest Android tools, that will be used for 3.0. So if your device is compatible with 2.9, it will be compatible with 3.0 too.

Since 2.9 we release new versions for Android 4.1 and higher. For 4.0.* devices 2.8.13 is the latest version at the moment. We will release critical updates for old devices, if necessary. MIPS and ARMv5 processors are not supported anymore as well.

Fixed in version 2.9:

  • Notification issues on Android 8.* and 9.* devices
  • Page turning animation freezes
  • Sporadic skipping of pages
  • Possible crash during synchronization on Android Go devices

September 2016 plans update

September 28, 2016

Our main focus is currently on the iOS version. It will be released for users this autumn. Ok, the reader already works, and I'm reading my books on my iPhone. But some important features are still missing, we want to release a more or less complete version.

Another line of activity is related to the Book Network. Book metainfo editing and synchronisation, custom shelves in web interface, OPDS catalogs sync, multiple books operations, etc.

As for the reader itself, our next steps are Goodreads integration an more bookmarks/notes features. Some reading statistics might be added as well.

Our plans: status update

July 09, 2016

FBReader for Android 2.7 (both free and Premium) will be released by end of July 2016. This version will fix a number of annoying issues related to migration to Android 6:

  • “Lost” bookmarks for books on SD card will be restored.
  • It will be possible to open books located on SD card via external file browsers, and open books downloaded in Chrome.

Since version 2.7 updates will be only available for Android 4.0 and higher.

FBReader for iOS is still under development, we plan to release first public beta by end of summer 2016.
